The Salvation Army Responds to San Bruno, CA Explosion

The Salvation Army's South San Francisco canteen (mobile kitchen) was deployed to San Bruno around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night, September 9 to provide cold drinks to emergency workers and firefighters responding to the fiery gas line explosion there. The team also provided aid and counseling to families displaced from their homes.

The canteen team returned to South San Francisco late last night with plans to return to the San Bruno area this morning to take part in a local assistance center.

The best way the public can offer practical help is by making a financial gift that can be used to buy the supplies most necessary for survival in the fire's aftermath.

Please note:  In kind donations are always needed for our local recovery programs. Families displaced by the San Bruno fire are being issued vouchers to purchase the materials they need at our Family Thrift Stores -- giving families the ability to select what fits their needs best.  Therefore, we cannot guarantee that all material donations collected at this time will go to fire victims, however, they will be provided to them along with our available inventory for them to select from when using their voucher.

While material donations are indeed helpful, financial gifts give us a greater ability to provide the appropriate goods to families for rebuilding their homes and lives.
