Salvation Army Assistance Continues for Those Impacted by Oklahoma Wildfires
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (August 9, 2012) – Reports indicate over 103,000 acres have burned in Oklahoma since last Friday with approximately 375 homes destroyed. The Salvation Army Arkansas-Oklahoma Division continues to have feeding units on stand-by across the State of Oklahoma due to the continued fire danger through Saturday.
The Salvation Army has Disaster Social Services personnel located in four Multi-Agency Resource Centers (MARCS) around the state providing financial assistance and vouchers for clothing to affected households. MARCs are currently open in Mannford (Creek County), Luther (Oklahoma County), Glencoe (Payne County), and Noble (Cleveland County). To date, we have opened more than 117 cases consisting of more than 261 persons. Many individuals and families are still expected to come through the centers as some are just now able to assess the damage and loss of their homes. The MARCS will remain open at least through Saturday.
Since the wildfire outbreak, The Salvation Army provided over 2,500 meals, 4,534 drinks, and over 2,600 snacks. Over 300 man-hours have been recorded for volunteers, employees, and Officers.
