The Salvation Army Has Served 3,000 Meals to First Responders and Evacuees of the Black Forest Fire

Denver, CO (June 12, 2013 4:00 pm) – In just 24 hours, The Salvation Army has provided over 3,000 meals to first responders and evacuees of multiples fires that erupted across Colorado yesterday. Volunteer teams and Salvation Army canteens are on site helping in the following fires:

Black Forest Fire

  • Teams from Colorado Springs and the Denver Metro area are providing food and hydration to first responders and evacuees at New Life Church and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department, as well as other assistance as needed.
  • Today, teams have provided 2,000 meals and 3,500 drinks around the area.
  • A Boy Scout Camp in Elbert County has evacuated and requested The Salvation Army’s assistance with food and hydration for its children.  The Ft. Collins Emergency Disaster Services team deployed to the Elbert County Fairgrounds where they will provide aid this evening for up to 1,200 Boy Scouts.
  • The volunteer team remains ready to help 200 campers from the nearby Jewish Children Camp if called.

Klinkus Fire

  • The Salvation Army continues to provide food and hydration for first responders fighting the Klinkus Fire in La Veta, CO.  Volunteers from The Salvation Army in Trinidad will deliver meals tonight to first responders.
  • Thus far, The Salvation Army has provided 70 meals, 240 drinks and 140 snacks to aid firefighters battling this fire.

Royal Gorge Fire

  • The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services teams are on standby to aid as necessary in the Royal Gorge Fire near Canon City.
