Emergency Disaster Services Team On Site At Navy Yard Distributing Food, Hydration, Emotional & Spiritual Comfort
Washington, DC (September 16, 2013) - The Salvation Army has deployed an emergency disaster services team and mobile feeding unit Monday afternoon in response to the Washington, DC Navy Yard shooting in the Southeast of the city. Dispatched from the National Capital Area Command, the team of Salvation Army Officers will provide nutrition, hydration, and emotional & spiritual comfort to survivors and their families, first responders and law enforcement and emergency personnel who remain on the scene of Monday morning’s incident.
The Emergency Disaster Services team is distributing snacks, water and coffee throughout the afternoon. Additionally, current plans call for dinner service to be offered this evening from the Mobile Feeding Units, also known as canteens. During a crisis, these canteens are capable of providing 1,500 meals per day. For those seeking emotional support, three Salvation Army officers are ready to offer counseling and prayer as needed.
Majors Lewis and Jacqulyn Reckline, National Capital Area Commanders for The Salvation Army, have expressed sadness over Monday morning's tragic incident in Southeast Washington, DC. They are asking for the community to join them in praying for the victims, and their families.
