Williamson County, TX - At approximately 1 P.M. on Tuesday November 25, 2014, an Amtrak passenger train carrying over 200 passengers collided with a passenger truck occupied by a single passenger on State Highway (SH) 95 south of Bartlett, Texas. The passengers on the train were unharmed, and the train did not derail, but the collision caused the fatality of the passenger in the truck. The Salvation Army disaster team, in Williamson County, responded to a request from local Emergency Management for assistance. The passengers from the train were evacuated to the High School in Granger, Texas and were assisted by the American Red Cross before being transported to alternate transportation. Team Leader Randy O’Dell stated that “our services were needed for approximately 50 first responders at the scene”. This was no surprise to him; Randy knows that “we are there to help the first responders.” Randy and his team served about 60 sandwiches, 150 snacks, 4 cases of water, and 40 cups of coffee to the first responders.

And while these services address many of the typical needs of a disaster survivor, Salvation Army disaster relief is also flexible. Our services are adapted to the specific needs of individuals and communities and scalable according to the magnitude of the disaster.
