The Salvation Army of the Carolinas Initiates Call To Prayer Following Mass Shooting
The Salvation Army of North and South Carolina requested that personnel at all its locations pause for prayer this morning following the mass shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC.
“The most powerful thing we can all do is to humble ourselves and pray,” said Major Tom Louden, General Secretary of The Salvation Army North and South Carolina Division.
According to officials and published media reports, an individual attending a prayer meeting at the church last night shot nine individuals, killing eight. The ninth individual died later at a local hospital.
The Salvation Army is prepared to support the congregation as necessary. “Many members of the congregation also attend programs at The Salvation Army, so the bonds of fellowship are strong and we are praying accordingly,” said Major Tom Richmond who along with his wife, Major Jenny Richmond, command The Salvation Army of Charleston.
Salvation Army personnel are responding to the areas around the scene to provide hydration as well as emotional and spiritual support.
