The Salvation Army Provides Water To Corpus Christi Following Contamination

Corpus Christi, Texas (December 15, 2016) – The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team has delivered two tractor trailer loads of bottled water to Corpus Christi. This follows the cities issuance of a notification to citizens on Thursday to discontinue using tap water after an unknown chemical substance contaminated the water supply.

People have been advised not to use tap water for normal activities including drinking, cooking, bathing and brushing teeth. Boiling, freezing, filtering, adding chlorine, or other disinfectants or letting the water stand will not make the water safe to drink.

The Salvation Army is working closely with the city of Corpus Christi and will be distributing water at the two city distribution centers; Greenwood Senior Center located at 4040 Greenwood Drive, and Oveal Williams Center at 1414 Martin Luther King Drive. The first load of water was delivered to the Greenwood Senior Center this evening where 600 cars came through and received water. Six pallets of water have been delivered for use at The Salvation Army Family Services Center.

“Another truckload of bottled water will arrive on Friday morning and additional loads are available and have been placed on standby for transportation to Corpus Christi,” said Alvin Migues, The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Service Director. “The Salvation Army is working with partner agencies to secure additional supplies of water should they become necessary. We will continue to serve in Corpus Christi as long as we are needed.”

The Salvation Army in Corpus Christi completed their Angel Tree distribution today, providing Christmas for 1,025 children in the community. Staff and volunteers who have worked so hard to complete the Angel Tree program have now quickly switched gears from Christmas assistance to Emergency Disaster Services as they continue The Salvation Army’s commitment of Doing The Most Good in Corpus Christi.
