Salvation Army Harvey Update for Sunday, Sept 3

Houston, TX (September 3, 2017) – The Salvation Army Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts continue, providing shelters and mobile feeding units to the Greater Houston Area. Workers from across the United States and Canada continue to arrive in Houston to support efforts in the affected area.

Over Labor Day weekend, The Salvation Army will provide the following resources to Hurricane Harvey survivors:  

  • Thirty-three (33) mobile kitchens and response teams, with an average capacity to serve 1,000 meals each day, are providing hot meals, snacks, and hydration in the following areas:
    • Aldine Westfield
    • Bear Creek
    • Cleveland
    • Conroe
    • Downtown
    • EastTex/Jensen
    • East Houston
    • Fort Bend
    • Garden City
    • League City
    • New Caney
    • Northshore
    • Pasadena
    • Pearland
    • Porter
    • Sheldon
    • Spring Branch

Some of these units are stationary, while others travel throughout the community finding hard-to-reach locations where need is the greatest.

  • The following Salvation Army locations continue to provide emergency shelter to families and individuals who have evacuated their homes:
    • Harbor Light Center: 2407 N Main St, Houston, TX 77009
    • Sally’s House: 1717 Congress Ave, Houston, TX 77002
    • Family Residence: 1603 McGowen St, Houston, TX 77004

As of September 1, the following assistance has been provided by The Salvation Army to those affected by Hurricane Harvey:

  • 177,376 meals
  • 105,263 snacks
  • 139,734 drinks

Shelter

  • 2,113 lodging provided
  • 1,747 showers provided

Emotional & Spiritual Care

  • 5,918 spiritual care contacts

Donations Management

  • 3,076 comfort/hygiene kits (per kit)
  • 1,216 infant supplies
  • 734 blankets
  • 40,578 clothing
  • 3,926 food boxes
  • 4,869 cases of water

Service Units

  • 92 mobile feeding units serving Texas

As for the Greater Houston Area, The Salvation Army has provided:
