The Salvation Army Monitors and Prepares for Cristobal Along Gulf Coast

Jackson, MS (June 4, 2020)— As Tropical Depression Cristobal nears the Gulf Coast, The Salvation Army Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi Division disaster personnel are closely monitoring the situation and preparing to serve if needed.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Cristobal is expected to enter into the central and northern Gulf of Mexico over the weekend. There is a risk of tropical-storm-force winds this weekend from Louisiana to the western Florida Panhandle and a risk of dangerous storm surge from Louisiana to the Florida Big Bend. Tropical storm and storm surge watches could be issued tonight or Friday.

The Salvation Army's emergency disaster personnel across the Gulf states are preparing to serve. Major Ernest Hull, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Greater New Orleans states, “We are preparing our resources to respond to Cristobol, but praying for God to calm the storm. We will be ready to respond to whatever this storm does."

The Salvation Army's disaster relief services include providing food, water, and emotional and spiritual care to residents and first responders in the affected areas.
