Salvation Army Feeds National Guard Troops Protecting the Capitol Complex for Inauguration

Thousands of troops now in our Nation’s Capital to preserve peace and ensure safety leading up to and following the Presidential Inauguration on January 20, 2021 are receiving support from The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command will provide food and comfort service for national guardsmen who are safeguarding the U.S. Capitol complex ahead of next Wednesday’s inauguration. The Salvation Army FedEx Emergency Disaster canteen, or mobile feeding unit, is positioned at the D.C. Armory complex in northeast D.C. A second disaster canteen is in place near U.S. Capitol Police headquarters.

Salvation Army officers and staff are preparing to provide service between 9 p.m. and midnight to the troops, including hot soup and beverages, fruit, snacks, and bottled water. The Salvation Army emergency disaster canteens can serve 1,500 meals daily during emergency events. This late evening food service is scheduled to take place through the inauguration events and, if needed, the next several weeks.

The Salvation Army is seeking the community support through donations which will help to replenish resources for our frontline forces. Donations can be made at give.virginiasalvationarmy.org/inauguration or Text INAUGURATION to 51555.
