Barrigada, Guam [July 12, 2023] –The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Humanitarian Division has donated a new 35-Kilowatt generator and a forklift to The Salvation Army Guams Corps. The generator replaces an old generator that failed following Typhoon Mawar. The forklift will support their ongoing food pantry and immediate recovery efforts across Guam in response to the increased needs of the community affected by Typhoon Mawar. The generator was delivered to The Salvation Army’s administrative building on Friday, July 7, and the forklift is on order and expected soon.
“With many in Guam worried about where their next meal will come from, we are extremely grateful for the generous support of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Humanitarian Division with the donation of a new generator and forklift to support our ongoing operations,” said Captain Hector Acosta, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army Guam Corps. The new generator replaces our broken generator and will help us power our administrative building. And the new forklift will be used to support the continual work of the food pantry and will be used immediately to support the recovery efforts for Guam, and the Mayors offices, as we help to house and distribute food, water and donated goods for the community.”
“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is pleased to help The Salvation Army continue their support across our island communities,” said Bill Davis, Welfare & Self Reliance Manager for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Victor Leonardi, Divisional Director of Emergency Services & Safety for The Salvation Army Hawaiian & Pacific Islands Division, said, “During emergencies, the best way the public can help is to provide monetary donations which allows the delivery of the exact relief supplies a community needs. Plus, The Salvation Army uses 100% of all donations designated ‘disaster relief’ in support of disaster operations.”
