The Salvation Army Griffin Whittles Down Survivors' Needs

GRIFFIN, GA – Relief efforts from the Griffin Salvation Army continue to work down the needs of tornado victims in Spalding County.

With disaster service in full operation, Griffin has five (5) canteens (mobile feeding units) addressing basic human needs in Sunny Side, Vaughn, Barnesville, one trailer park, and one roving unit on Fayetteville Highway.

According to Major Jack Butler, Griffin’s Corps Officer, “One hundred and twenty (120) individuals whose mobile homes were completely destroyed found themselves suddenly displaced.  Forty (40) mobile homes were demolished.  We know, however that everyday and every meal gets us closer to healing the scars left by this terrible storm.”

Three (3) canteens in Griffin report for April 29:

• 118 people received breakfast
• 242 persons received lunch
• 1,078 bottles of water distributed
• 62 snacks were given

The Salvation Army is grateful to the public for their continued support.

At this point, in-kind donations are not being accepted outside the disaster area.  Used clothing and used furniture are seldom required during an incident.  However, these gifts are vitally important in supporting the day-to-day work of your local Salvation Army.
