Chattanooga, TN - One week after the most deadly storms to hit the Southeast, The Salvation Army continues to serve tirelessly and continues to “Do the Most Good” by providing help, hope, and healing. “It’s what we do,” states Divisional Disaster Director Joe Hughes. “Especially when folks have lost everything, the least we can do is provide a hot meal and warm prayer."
In northwest GA and southeast TN, under the direction of Commissioner James Osborne and Ray Dalrymple, almost 18,000 meals have been served and over 35,000 beverages and over 800 individuals have been personally prayed with by our Spiritual Care team.
Catoosa County, GA – The Salvation Army continues to station 2 mobile kitchen units servicing the Ringgold community that have come from Dalton, GA and Winchester, TN. A third mobile kitchen unit from Knoxville is roaming Cherokee Valley Rd. Social Service teams are making arrangements to move into offering their services as well to this community.
Hamilton County, TN – The Salvation Army continues to serve in Apison, TN roaming these areas providing food and emotional and spiritual care. Social service assistance is also beginning in this county as well.
Bradley County, TN – The Salvation Army has teamed with The Red Cross and Southern Baptist Association to serve the needs of the Cleveland Community. They have a joint distribution center where food, water, and other physical needs are being met. Southern Territorial Disaster Director, Jeff Jellets, said after visiting the community, “What an incredible example of service organizations working together, Doing the Most Good!”
Lake County, TN – The Salvation Army service unit has been serving since the storms hit on April 27. They have been averaging 300 meals a day. Service is being provided by Service Unit volunteers. They are monitoring the threat of rising waters.
Memphis, TN - The Salvation Army continues to watch the threat of rising waters in the area and is active in the local EOC. They have served 1795 meals and over 2500 beverages to the EOC and staging areas.
Henderson, KY – The Salvation Army has 3 separate locations where physical, emotional and spiritual services are being provided. The locations are in Henderson in the communities of Spottsville, Reed, Beals. They are scaling back to a little over 100 meals a day and have served close to fifteen hundred meals total since relief efforts began.
Washington, VA - With the EOC closing, The Salvation Army’s Johnson City, TN and the Owensboro, KY mobile kitchen unit will released as of today, May 4, 2011. The Bristol Corps will continue to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care to victims of this horrific disaster.
