Military Veterans Reach Out To Tornado Survivors Through Giving
Jackson, MS - May 18, 2011- When staff and residents of the State Veterans Home in Jackson first heard about the horrific tornado devastation across portions of Mississippi and Alabama they knew they had to do something. So the group decided to take up a collection and have contributed over $500 to The Salvation Army to assist with relief efforts.
Staff representatives and two residents traveled to the Alabama-Louisiana-Mississippi Disaster Services Center in Jackson on Monday May 16th to deliver their donation. 76-year old Robert Thomas, a veteran of what he says is “too many wars to remember” says he knew the Salvation Army was the right place to donate because of his trust for the organization. 89-year old veteran Fraude Sellers also made the trip.
“We are so thankful for the gift we have received from these generous and giving individuals” said Major Tom Louden of The Salvation Army’s Incident Command. “The Salvation Army has always been blessed by the support of this country’s veterans. Their donation is just one more example of their compassion for others in need.”
