The Salvation Army Responds to Flooding in Eastern Kentucky
Middlesboro, KY (June 20, 2011) - The Salvation Army is responding to flooding in Eastern Kentucky. Storms last evening added to the already saturated ground and swollen waterways to create dangerous flooding in several areas in the heart of Eastern Kentucky.
Captains Adrian & Karen Twinney, are entrusted with The Salvation Army’s work in six (6) counties in the Southeastern part of the Commonwealth, based out of Middlesboro, Kentucky. Captain Adrian Twinney is the Incident Commander for The Salvation Army’s response to this flooding.
The Salvation Army’s facility—located at 118 North 18th Street in Middlesboro—suffered extensive damage from last night’s flooding.
Even while working to salvage what can be salvaged, Twinney has been coordinating with local officials to assess the damage as well as the focus and extent of Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services response.
Drawing from Salvation Army resources in place in Kentucky & Tennessee, a mobile feeding kitchen (canteen) has been mobilized from Knoxville, Tennessee to respond to the evolving need. Three (3) other units have been placed on standby as the full response is determined.
