Salvation Army of Lubbock Supports Resilience Emergency Preparedness Conference

Lubbock, TX (September 7, 2011) - This October, the foremost authorities in disaster and emergency response will gather for the Resilience Emergency Preparedness Conference to educate individuals, families, community response groups, and congregations on better emergency preparedness. The Resilience conference will take place in Lubbock, Texas at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center from October 11 to October 13, 2011.

Resilience promotes a “whole community” approach to disaster preparedness, including involvement from faith-based organizations, civic and volunteer organizations, the general public, and the private sector to effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters or emergency events.

“This conference recognizes that building community resilience requires a collective effort of planning for the needs of the community,”said Lubbock County Judge Thomas V. (Tom) Head.“Innovative approaches are necessary to maintain a collective capability to enhance existing practices that help local communities be successful under normal conditions.”

Resilience offers five tracks including the following highlighted workshops:Personal & Family Preparedness; Emotional and Spiritual Care in Disaster Operations; Integration of Youth During Emergency Response; Active Shooter and Security Planning for Churches; Latino Leadership Workshop; Bridging the Gap between the Sensory Impaired and Everyone Else.

Guest speakers will include:

• W. Nim Kidd, CEM, Chief, Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM)
• Jack Munday, Director of the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (RRT)
• Jeff Jellets, Territorial Disaster Coordinator, The Salvation Army Southern Territory
•  Paul R. Williams, M.D., medical missionary and Author of When All Plans Fail
