The Salvation Army's Relief Effort Ends in Alabama

Birmingham, Ala. (February 1, 2012) – Monday  evening, The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services ended its seven-day emergency meal and hydration service with dinner for storm survivors in the Birmingham area.

Since Monday, January 23, The Salvation Army provided more than 4,100 meals, over 8,800 drinks and almost 7,000 snacks . Additionally, the Salvation Army provided over 300 cleanup kits to the more than 244 homes affected by the storms. Each clean up kit included a mop, bucket, cleaning supplies, brooms, and other useful cleaning items.

Limited recovery assistance is available through The Salvation Army’s Social Service office at 2130 11th Avenue North in Birmingham. Residents will primarily be referred to community support services available through the local and state government.

“We are now scaling back our feeding and relief operations. The Salvation Army is providing limited emergency recovery support through its social services office but we’ll remain available to provide additional relief as needed,” explains Bill Feist, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army continues to provide long term recovery support for those affected by the April Tornado outbreak.
