Walmart and Sam's Club Donate $100,000 to Assist with Wildfire Relief Efforts in Colorado Springs

Funds to support emergency relief efforts of American Red Cross and Salvation Army

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (June 27, 2012) — In response to the escalating need for assistance with wildfire relief efforts in the Colorado Springs area, Walmart and Sam’s Club today announced a $100,000 cash and in-kind donation. The American Red Cross and Salvation Army will each receive a $25,000 cash donation. The remaining $50,000 will be in-kind donation of life-sustaining product to disaster relief partners and includes five semi-truck loads of water to Care and Share, along with additional product support from the stores.

“As the needs of those impacted continue to increase, Walmart is committed to supporting and assisting the Colorado Springs community,” said Gary Peacock, Walmart market manager. “Our company has a longstanding commitment to helping in times of disaster, and we’ll continue to monitor the situation to help ensure essential needs are being met.”

“With the impact of these fires on our community, members, associates and suppliers, we wanted to reach out with assistance as soon as possible,” said Ron Folks, the Sam’s Club manager in Colorado Springs, “Giving back to our communities, especially in a time of need, is part of our culture at Sam’s Club.”
