The Salvation Army Serving Patten Tower Fire Evacuees

Chattanooga, TN (May 29, 2013) - The Salvation Army of Greater Chattanooga is on the scene at the Brainerd Recreation Center located on North Moore Road to serve evacuees from the overnight Patten Towers fire. This morning, The Salvation Army served breakfast to over 300 individuals and is preparing to serve lunch and dinner today and all three meals tomorrow.  Salvation Army personnel and volunteers are en route from Winchester, TN to help serve the Patten Towers residents.  

One anxiety-filled Patten Towers resident, a regular at The Salvation Army's ReCreate Cafe, came to the serving canteen and said, "Captain Winter, now that I know you're here, I know that everything is going to be alright."  

The American Red Cross reports more than 240 residents are being sheltered.  The Salvation Army is serving with the American Red Cross to meet the needs of the evacuees.  It is uncertain how long residents will be displaced, and The Salvation Army is preparing to serve as long as needed.
