November 4, 2013 – This past Saturday, The Salvation Army of Arkansas-Oklahoma, was represented by the Emergency Disaster Services team at the annual National Weather Service Festival held in Norman, Oklahoma. The event partners the National Weather Service with Emergency Responders, Local Storm Chasers, Local Meteorologist teams, and much more.
This year, it is estimated over 5,000 persons visited local weather personalities, watched the launching of hourly weather balloons, checked out emergency response vehicles and visited with local responders, including The Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army had a booth that included the Central Oklahoma Area Command’s mobile kitchen – which served 2,741drinks (hot chocolate and bottled water). Also on display were two Polaris off road vehicles that help us reach areas that would otherwise be impassable to traditional disaster response vehicles. Representatives from the Central Oklahoma Salvation Army, Emergency Disaster Services, as well as the Arkansas & Oklahoma Divisional Headquarters, Emergency Disaster Services, were on hand to talk about programs and services provided by the Salvation Army.
This event turned out to be a wonderful time had by all -- the National Weather Service staff that hosted, the first responders that participated, and the families that came to take part in the festivities.
