Salvation Army Deploys to Support Mt. Evans Search and Rescue
Denver, CO (April 8, 2014) – This morning, The Salvation Army’s emergency disaster response personnel deployed to support a large scale search and rescue operation for a missing father and son on Mt. Evans. In addition to supporting first responders with food and hydration during the search, The Salvation Army’s trained emotional care team has been placed on standby at the request of Clear Creek County.
On The Salvation Army’s deployment, divisional leader Lt. Col. Dan Starrett said, “Our primary goal is to provide for the needs of Search and Rescue team members so that they may continue their work until this family is found.“
About The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Response in Colorado
During 2013, The Salvation Army’s emergency disaster services teams responded to more than 40 disasters in Colorado. During these disasters, volunteers gave more than 20,000 hours collectively to provide first responders and survivors with meals, hydration, emotional care and clean-up kits. Last year, The Salvation Army spent close to $2 million in Colorado alone to meet the immediate needs of those impacted by disasters.
