Gulf Breeze, Fla. (May 10, 2014) – Fresh laundry is something most people take for granted. But during a disaster, it’s those small creature comforts that often get neglected.
Beginning Sunday (May 11), The Salvation Army will have its mobile laundry unit at the First Baptist Church of Gulf Breeze (555 Fair Point Dr.).
“Flood survivors have lost everything,” said Salvation Army of Pensacola Captain Robert Cornett. “Having clean clothes brings a little bit of normalcy to people who are just starting to recover their belongings.”
The laundry unit came from The Salvation Army of Texas. It has three washers and three dryers, with the capacity to help several people at one time.
The Salvation Army mobile laundry unit is the only mobile laundry unit in Santa Rosa County. Hours of operations are daily (9 am to 6 pm) beginning Sunday (May 11) through Wednesday (May 14).
Since flooding began, The Salvation Army of Pensacola has served more than 6,300 meals, 8,900 drinks and continues to shelter residents displaced by the storm.

In addition to feeding, The Salvation Army is prepared to provide:
• Clean-up kits containing brooms, mops, buckets and cleaning supplies
• Hygiene kits
• Drinking water
• Shower units
• First-aid supplies
• Emotional/spiritual care
The Salvation Army encourages all residents of areas in the storm’s path to prepare an emergency supply kit and stay informed to all warnings. Disaster response professionals recommend having a three to five day supply of food and water for each individual of your family as well as flashlights, medication, and battery powered radio.

At this point, in-kind donations are not being accepted. Used clothing and used furniture are seldom required during an incident. However, these gifts are vitally important in supporting the day-to-day work of your local Salvation Army.
