Salvation Army Responds to Tanker Explosion in Louisiana

New Orleans, LA (08/26/2014) - The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team from the New Orleans Area Command responded to a tanker explosion Tuesday afternoon off I-10 in New Orleans East.

Divisional EDS leadership was in the area earlier in the day checking out the new disaster facilities that support the emergency work of the area command in New Orleans.  Divisional EDS Director Thad Hicks stated, “I have a lot of faith in the work of the team in New Orleans.  Nine years ago, many of these same people were serving during Katrina, and the lessons they learned during that terrible time are still with them today.” 

The tanker's driver was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Salvation Army response team was on site from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM providing hydration and serving dinner to the fireman and first responders. The Salvation Army of New Orleans has a special relationship with the local police and fire departments. These first responders know that support is only a phone call away.
