Pearl, MS (09/01/2014) – The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Service’s Department of the Alabama-Louisiana-Mississippi division has signed an offical agreement with The State of Mississippi highlighting the different roles of both organizations during a large-scale emergency event.
While cooperation during a disaster is nothing new, both groups thought it was a good idea to have the abilities and expectations of the other down on paper. According to Divisional EDS Director, Thad Hicks, “We do not expect any major changes in the way that we interact, but it is important for both organizations to understand what the other brings to the table in the case of a disaster event.”
Putting these agreements in place with each of the states within the division is the goal of the EDS department. Having added information prior to an event allows The Salvation Army to be more effective and efficient with its resources and service delivery. The Salvation Army helped spearhead this effort, and now other nonprofits are following suit.
The ultimate goal is to have individual agreements with each of the three states within the ALM division. Another plan is at the final step with the State of Alabama. An official signing ceremony is currently being planned. Through these agreements, The Salvation Army’s emergency disaster services are positioned to offer better assistance during times of disaster or in an emergency.
