The Salvation Army Doubles Down Their Response in Monroe, LA

Monroe, LA (10-16-2014) – The Salvation Army of Northern Louisiana doubled down Wednesday in their response.  With the help of an additional unit from Jackson, MS, the Monroe Salvation Army continued its service to the community following the now confirmed, F2 tornado on Monday.

The Salvation Army has been serving between 150 – 200 individuals meals three times per day at its stationary location in the Garden District of Monroe, LA.  This area was hit especially hard by the storms.   As the word continues to get out about the work of The Salvation Army, more and more people are making their way to the canteen for help.  With the additional unit from Jackson, units will begin venturing into other areas populated by those unable to get to The Salvation Army’s current location.  Monroe Salvation Army Volunteer Coordinator, Bobby Wooley advised, “It has been a long few days, but The Salvation Army has helped a lot of people. I am glad we could be there and lend a hand.” 

As of last count, the Monroe, LA area still had 9200 locations without power.  The Salvation Army of North East Louisiana plans to continue serving those in need. Area Administrator, Capt. Jerry Williams stated, “Since we now have the smaller, more mobile catering truck, we are finding people who are still in need of help, and that’s why we are here.”
