Salvation Army of Carolinas Monitoring Tropical Storm Julia
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (September 14, 2016) – Tropical Storm Julia formed off of the coast of Florida and Southern Georgia overnight September 13 and made landfall along the Georgia coastline. The potential for heavy rain for the South Carolina coast and low-country of South Carolina has The Salvation Army of the Carolinas closely monitoring the storm and making initial preparations for response. While localized rainfall impacts are expected to be 3 to 6 inches some areas could see isolated amounts up to 10 inches of rain.
“We have alerted all Salvation Army locations to closely monitor the storm and to be ready for localized response in their service area,” said Mike Patterson, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army of North and South Carolina. “The Salvation Army collaborates with emergency management at local, county, and state levels to be prepared if relief efforts are necessary.”
In times of disaster, The Salvation Army of the Carolinas has 20 mobile feeding units ready to respond to provide hot meals, cold drinks, snacks, and emotional and spiritual care to people impacted.
