COLQUITT, GA (October 22, 2018) — The Salvation Army in southern Georgia has teamed up with FEMA at various Disaster Recovery Centers in the region. FEMA agents canvass the nearby neighborhoods to make sure every household with damage receives necessary information. These affected households can then visit the Recovery Centers to check on the status of their claims, turn in updated paperwork, or ask any questions they might have.
While at a FEMA center, they can also visit The Salvation Army canteen operating in the parking lot. Serving hot mails and distributing hygiene kits, cases of water, and boxes of non-perishable food, the canteens address pressing needs created by the storm.
When asked about the partnership, Captain Claudia Reseno said, “It helps the families and community so much to have one stop to access help for their house repairs and meet their immediate need for food.” Additionally, it allows The Salvation Army staff to better direct those in needs to the other agencies that can provide aid.
How to Help:
The best way to help survivors and relief workers is to make a financial contribution. Monetary donations allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of disaster survivors.
