The Salvation Army Continues Relief in Rural Georgia

LEARY, GA (October 25, 2018) — Recovery efforts continue in Baker County, Georgia, an area hit heavily by Hurricane Michael. The Salvation Army has supplied meals, hot dogs, buns, drinks, and assorted snacks for distribution. In pockets of the county, farmers and people in remote locations still had not had access to outside aid. A group of community members are doing what they can to change that. “It’s a small community. We all pull together. We’re doing what we can to get food to the people who cannot get out, whatever the reason,” said Angel Davis. Another volunteer, Carolyn Conrad, spoke about her gratitude toward the linemen, community workers and volunteers she has met from around the country. “I know we would all like to personally thank every single person who has traveled here, but we just can’t.”  

In response to Hurricane Michael, The Salvation Army in Georgia has provided:

• 55,890 Meals
• 34,719 Drinks
• 28,967 Snacks
• 634 Clean-up Kits and Supplies
• 3,172 Food Boxes
• 1,075 Hygiene Kits
• 1,144 Cases of Water
• 3,729 Emotional and Spiritual consultations
• 15,437 hours of employee and volunteer service
