Florida Disaster Relief with the Southern Baptist Convention

Perry, FL (August 6, 2024) - In response to Hurricane Debby, a number Salvation Army and Southern Baptist Convention Florida Disaster Relief response units were deployed Tuesday into Taylor County. Crews from throughout the state converged on Perry, the county seat, to help.

As partners in emergency disaster relief, The Salvation Army and SBC Florida Disaster Relief enjoy a long-standing relationship. During its deployment, both organizations will work together to provide individuals affected by Hurricane Debby with water, warm meals, and emotional and spiritual care.

“In our partnership with The Salvation Army, we feed the community, and any overflow of those resources go to our churches,” said Rich Rigdon, Southern Baptist Convention Florida Disaster Relief Associate Director. “By helping the churches feed people with the overflow of food, we help in building them up, which is crucial during disasters.”

The camaraderie between the partnering volunteer organizations is clear. "Our partnership is also excellent because your pastors get to ride with us on service deliveries, and we get to cook in your canteens periodically." Said Rich.

Through streamlined collaboration, disaster relief organizations such as The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services and Southern Baptist Convention Florida Disaster Relief provide service delivery, and resources are utilized efficiently and effectively. By focusing on the strengths of each group, a more efficient and organized process results, ensuring that those in need receive assistance on time.

Steven Hartsook, Florida EDS Director says, “Our relationship and partnership continue to foster each other’s strengths to meet the needs of disaster survivors in their place of need.”

Support The Salvation Army’s disaster preparation and response efforts is by making a financial contribution, which allows The Salvation Army to meet immediate and long-term needs. During emergency disasters, 100% of designated gifts support specific relief efforts.
