Supporting Hero of Jena, FL

Carolyn Oglesby has pastored the Pentecostal Church of Jena since 1999. In that time, she has built trust within the community of Jena; a population of 1500 people. According to Carolyn, Jena means small town in German.

Carolyn’s church is standing despite all the destruction surrounding it. When asked what the town looks like, she said, “It’s a war zone in a war zone. It’s wiped out.” Her own house is now standing 16ft from its foundation. But that has not stopped her from making sure the people of Jena are taken care of.

One of The Salvation Army’s Mobile Feeding Unit traveled to Jena with a load of hot chicken and dumplings. Carolyn made sure to note that the food was delicious and canteen crew “did a marvelous job.”

When asked what the support of other people meant to her, she said, “I couldn’t do this without the help of other people.”

It has been an honor to bring support to Carolyn Oglesby of Jena. She is a true hero. The Salvation Army remains dedicated to addressing the needs of affected areas and providing necessary support.
