Clean Clothes, Renewed Hope: The Salvation Army Supports Augusta After the Storm
Augusta, Georgia (October 8, 2024) – In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, The Salvation Army of Augusta brought relief to local doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff by offering clean laundry to healthcare workers without power. The mobile laundry unit was stationed at Doctors Hospital of Augusta, providing much-needed support as staff worked tirelessly.
"These healthcare workers have been on the frontlines caring for our community, and we wanted to support them in any way we could," said Area Commander, Major Jonathan Raymer. "Something as simple as clean clothes can offer a sense of comfort and normalcy during a time of crisis."
With many Augusta residents still without power, the Laundry Unit is now stationed at The Center of Hope, open to the entire community. Residents can bring their laundry and access this free service while power restoration efforts continue.
Dennis Sims, Mobile Outreach Services Coordinator, emphasized the broader mission: “We’re here to serve not just individuals, but the entire community. Everyone deserves access to basic necessities, especially in difficult times like these. It’s all part of our commitment to 'soup, soap, and salvation,' bringing hope and healing in God’s name.”
Thank you to Aetna for their generous grant that made it possible for The Salvation Army to purchase the Laundry Unit. Their support underscores the importance of community collaboration during times of need.
