Oklahoma City, OK (April 24, 2026) \u2013\u00a0Within hours after a powerful tornado tore through Enid on Thursday evening, The Salvation Army of Arkansas-Oklahoma was on the ground, serving a neighborhood left unrecognizable in a matter of minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The storm left a path of destruction through a close-knit community, reducing homes to debris. Families were out today, beginning to process what they\u2019ve lost. With severe weather still moving across Oklahoma and additional areas under tornado watches and warnings, response efforts continue under uncertain conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By Friday, two Rapid Response Units and a mobile feeding canteen were set up, providing meals, drinks, and emotional and spiritual support at a fixed location and on the move through impacted neighborhoods. The Salvation Army team in Enid has been working side by side with city officials, volunteer groups, and community leaders throughout the day. Members of the local Advisory Board have also stepped in, returning this weekend to help however they can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Again and again, one phrase keeps coming up: the \u201cOklahoma Standard.\u201d It\u2019s the idea that in times of crisis, people show up for one another, and in Enid, that spirit is on full display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Salvation Army is serving not only first responders, but also families trying to come to terms with what comes next. For many, it starts with something simple, a cold drink, a meal, or a moment to sit and catch their breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One man approached the canteen asking only for something to drink. He was exhausted and overwhelmed. As he shared his story, he explained that just the day before, he and his wife had purchased a new SUV. It now sits in their yard, damaged and surrounded by debris, with only a few miles on it. Their home is gone. Two vehicles are lost. One of their cats is missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In that moment, the need wasn\u2019t just physical; it was emotional and spiritual. After talking for a while, the man said he was a person of faith. A brief prayer was shared, along with a cold drink and reassurance that he and his family would not be forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stories like his are unfolding across Enid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
