CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>The Salvation Army cares for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of people each day. At times of disasters, it is no different.\u00a0\u00a0Since the Easter Tornadoes swept through the Tennessee Valley, The Salvation Army has served 13,505 meals, 5,610 drinks, 4,890 snacks, and provided 468 emotional and spiritual care in Catoosa County Georgia, Hamilton and Bradley counties in Tennessee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Salvation Army has been feeding those housed by the American Red Cross in area hotels as well as feeding emergency relief workers at command posts and serving neighbors as they continue clean-up efforts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have emergency teams in town who are from all over the states of Tennessee and Kentucky,\u201d say Major Stephen Story. \u201cMany of these same individuals just finished serving in the Nashville region for their tornadoes earlier in March.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Salvation Army has moved from Middle Tennessee disaster relief, to COVID-19 relief, right into the Easter Tornado Relief in our own area. \u201cThe Salvation Army\u2019s budget is tighter than its ever been,\u201d states Major Mark Smith, Area Commander for the Greater Chattanooga Salvation Army. \u201cWe have faith that God will carry us financially through the remainder of the fiscal year working through our generous community’s support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to tornado disaster efforts, we will continue to provide ongoing care in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, to the un-housed community and meet needs through our social services office with food and utility assistance.  To contribute to The Salvation Army\u2019s efforts visit helpsalvationarmy.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
