{"id":11045,"date":"2020-03-30T18:56:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-30T18:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/?p=11045"},"modified":"2026-05-14T19:10:31","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T19:10:31","slug":"meals-to-go-and-handwashing-stations-help-salvation-army-continue-meal-service-in-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/index.php\/2020\/03\/30\/meals-to-go-and-handwashing-stations-help-salvation-army-continue-meal-service-in-florida\/","title":{"rendered":"Meals-to-Go and Handwashing Stations Help Salvation Army Continue Meal Service in Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19, The Salvation Army in Manatee County (Bradenton, Florida) temporarily suspended its traditional community dinner offered weeknights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This meal has always been free to anyone in the community in need \u2013 regardless if they are homeless or not.&nbsp; Knowing this is a vital service, the decision was made to hold the community dinner outside and serve meals in to-go packages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInitially, we saw a drop-off in our numbers,\u201d stated Tom Giglio, The Salvation Army\u2019s Food Services Manager in Bradenton.&nbsp; He added, \u201cbut now, with so many people losing their jobs and not knowing when they will see a paycheck again, we\u2019ve seen a spike of new people coming for food.&nbsp; We are seeing many more families than normal now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since so many of the dinner patrons are not homeless, this gives them the opportunity to pick up meals for their family, while staying within the CDC social distancing guidelines and eat that meal in the comfort of their own homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Didi, a regular at the community dinner, is appreciative to be able to have a hot meal each evening.&nbsp; She said, \u201cI am so grateful that The Salvation Army is there to serve this dinner.
