{"id":12487,"date":"2018-10-19T18:57:00","date_gmt":"2018-10-19T18:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/?p=12487"},"modified":"2026-09-08T19:05:25","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T19:05:25","slug":"the-salvation-army-lifts-the-spirits-of-a-mexico-beach-couple-who-lost-it-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/index.php\/2018\/10\/19\/the-salvation-army-lifts-the-spirits-of-a-mexico-beach-couple-who-lost-it-all\/","title":{"rendered":"The Salvation Army Lifts the Spirits of a Mexico Beach Couple Who Lost it All"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Panama City, FL &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cWe loved it, it was just so peaceful.\u201d That\u2019s how Deneice Tanner describes Mexico Beach and the home she and her husband Tommy shared after moving from Georgia just 16 months prior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now the couple is homeless having lost everything as Hurricane Michael slammed into the quaint beach town a little more than a week ago. \u201cWe were forced to evacuate and my first thought was to run!, just leave as fast as we could just to stay alive, says Tommy Tanner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Tanners grabbed only what they needed and ended up in Alabama for a few days to escape Michael\u2019s path, returning to Mexico Beach last week to survey the damage. Deneice says the drive home was not an easy one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt literally made us sick, like I felt like I was going to throw up; I\u2019ve never had that feeling in my entire life.\u201d And it didn\u2019t get any better once they arrived. Where their dream home used to sit, was now just a pile of sand and debris. The couple is staying in a hotel near Panama City as they prepare to stay with family in the mountains of Georgia next week. They had just left the Walmart on Panama City Beach getting some clothing they\u2019d need for their trip and that\u2019s when they found The Salvation Army\u2019s disaster canteen providing a much-needed hot meal and cold water; Just what they needed says Tommy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s an absolute blessing that The Salvation Army is here; it\u2019s wonderful.\u201d Despite the stress of what they\u2019ve been through together, Deneice says they will make it back to Mexico Beach. \u201cThere\u2019s no doubt about it. This is a place I\u2019ve been coming to off and on my entire life. When the time is right, we will rebuild and once again call it home.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"credits-overlay\" data-target=\".wp-image-12488\">The Salvation Army
