{"id":12517,"date":"2018-10-16T19:40:00","date_gmt":"2018-10-16T19:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/?p=12517"},"modified":"2026-09-08T19:42:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T19:42:07","slug":"the-salvation-army-of-georgia-expands-hurricane-michael-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/index.php\/2018\/10\/16\/the-salvation-army-of-georgia-expands-hurricane-michael-service\/","title":{"rendered":"The Salvation Army of Georgia Expands Hurricane Michael Service"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ALBANY, GA<\/strong> \u2013 The Salvation Army is on the ground with a mission to feed, hydrate, and give help and hope in communities across South Georgia impacted by Hurricane Michael.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, one catering truck from the Kentucky Division and three from the Alabama-Lousiana-Mississippi Division join the fleet of 16 canteens (mobile feeding units) from the Georgia Division in service in South Gerogia. The 20 total Salvation Army units in service are staffed with crews of specially-trained food service workers and emotional and spiritual care specialists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Salvation Army is here for those impacted by Hurricane Michael, ready to respond aggressively and serve compassionately as long as we are needed,\u201d says Captain Erik Henry, Incident Commander for The Salvation Army\u2019s Hurricane Michael Incident Management Team in Albany, Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Salvation Army expanded service in the Albany and Bainbridge areas as downed trees and electrical wires were steadily cleared, giving access to more south Georgians in need. Emergency crews continue to make progress to restore power, but it may be several weeks before power is completely restored to rural parts of South Georgia. For as long and wherever needed, The Salvation Army is committed to help those in need of food, drink and an encouraging word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cThe canteens are stocked twice a day with food and drinks ready to serve affected areas,\u201d says Incident Management Team Operations Chief, Major Andrew Gilliam. \u201cThey have the ability to respond quickly to changing conditions to serve those in need,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Salvation Army mobile feeding units are currently positioned in the following areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Decatur County<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2092 Tallahassee Highway South, Bainbridge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Walmart \u2013 500 East Alice Street, Bainbridge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brinson Fire Department \u2013 176 Ruthaford Street, Brinson<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dougherty County<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Civic Center &#8211; 100 W Oglethorpe Blvd, Albany<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gordon Sports Complex \u2013 800 Willie Pits Jr. Road, Albany<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Albany Fire Company No. 1 \u2013 320 N.
