{"id":12861,"date":"2018-09-26T15:23:00","date_gmt":"2018-09-26T15:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/?p=12861"},"modified":"2026-10-05T15:30:18","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T15:30:18","slug":"a-network-for-good-in-robeson-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/index.php\/2018\/09\/26\/a-network-for-good-in-robeson-county\/","title":{"rendered":"A Network For Good in Robeson County"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Lumberton, NC <\/strong>\u2013 The line stretched back at least 20 vehicles. \u00a0Box trucks, cargo vans, passenger vans (seats removed), even a tow truck and quite a few pick-up trucks; but no cars\u2026not a one. \u00a0 No, this is about neighbors helping neighbors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The line of vehicles was made up of representatives from neighborhood churches and community centers throughout Robeson County and ended alongside&nbsp;a 53-foot-long refrigerated tractor trailer. &nbsp;The Salvation Army was distributing much needed frozen food to these groups, who together form&nbsp;a network for good.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robeson County in southcentral North Carolina has the unfortunate distinction of being one of the poorest counties in the United States. &nbsp;But what is lacked in financial resources, is make up for in compassion; truly, genuine love for your neighbor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each group received a selection of food including proteins, vegetables, starches, and even some desserts or snacks. &nbsp;Most of the food was fully cooked, which can be very important for those still struggling to recover from the wide-spread flooding when kitchens may not yet be ready to cook. &nbsp;The individual groups then go back to their neighborhoods, divide the load into family portions and distribute it &#8212; sometimes going door-to-door,&nbsp;making sure to check on the elderly and shut-ins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Salvation Army is working with community partners to quickly distribute food resources, leveraging natural networks to meet the need effectively and efficiently. &nbsp;\u201cWorking with community partners is natural for The Salvation Army,\u201d said Major Tim Grider. &nbsp;Grider is the Incident Commander for The Salvation Army\u2019s disaster response in and around Robeson County. &nbsp;New to the community, Grider and his wife share the load of leadership for The Salvation Army\u2019s mission in Fayetteville and four surrounding counties, including Robeson. &nbsp;\u201cThe Salvation Army wants to use resources wisely, so we strive to complement existing services to fill unmet or under-met needs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Loaded down and headed to share, a honk of from a box truck as it pulled off was returned with a short wave and quick prayer of thanks as the next vehicle pulled up.<\/p>\n<div class=\"credits-overlay\" data-target=\".wp-image-12862\">The Salvation Army <\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lumberton, NC \u2013 The line stretched back at least 20 vehicles. \u00a0Box trucks, cargo vans, passenger vans (seats removed), even a tow truck and quite a few pick-up trucks; but no cars\u2026not a one. \u00a0 No, this is about neighbors helping neighbors.
