{"id":12900,"date":"2018-10-01T17:17:00","date_gmt":"2018-10-01T17:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/?p=12900"},"modified":"2026-10-05T17:25:31","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T17:25:31","slug":"americorps-and-the-salvation-army-powerful-partners-in-disaster-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/index.php\/2018\/10\/01\/americorps-and-the-salvation-army-powerful-partners-in-disaster-recovery\/","title":{"rendered":"AmeriCorps and The Salvation Army: Powerful Partners in Disaster Recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Wilmington, NC &#8211;<\/strong> Emilie (pictured on right) is currently in her second year of service with AmeriCorps and has been working with The Salvation Army\u2019s recovery operation in Wilmington, North Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think the most valuable thing you can give is your time, it\u2019s a really important way to be a part of the community and to help people,\u201d says Emilie. \u201cVolunteering with The Salvation Army has been great; the people really care about helping and making sure people get what they need.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Salvation Army relies on nearly 3 million volunteers each year to help serve people across the United States. \u201cPartnerships with organizations like AmeriCorps are vital to The Salvation Army\u2019s effectiveness, especially during disaster response,\u201d says Steven Hartsook, Incident Commander for The Salvation Army\u2019s Hurricane Florence response based in Wilmington, North Carolina. \u201cAmeriCorps volunteers have seamlessly joined our team, and we\u2019re already looking for opportunities to work together in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mission of AmeriCorps is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through team-based national and community service. Emilie knows that with volunteering, it\u2019s not always about the immediate impact. \u201cSeeing the change that happens overtime is what I like most about volunteering,\u201d she says. \u201cJust being able to make someone\u2019s day a little bit better is what I like most.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Salvation Army is grateful for those who come alongside us to serve, not just during disaster response, but 365 days a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How to Help<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best way to help after a disaster is to make a financial donation.
