{"id":12903,"date":"2018-10-01T17:26:00","date_gmt":"2018-10-01T17:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/?p=12903"},"modified":"2026-10-05T17:28:51","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T17:28:51","slug":"salvation-army-shares-hope-and-help-after-disasters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/index.php\/2018\/10\/01\/salvation-army-shares-hope-and-help-after-disasters\/","title":{"rendered":"Salvation Army Shares Hope and Help After Disasters"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Conway, SC \u2013 <\/strong>The community is working to find a sense of normalcy, even as some parts of the community are still cut off by flood water. \u00a0On Sunday, community members and visitors filed into The Salvation Army\u2019s chapel, passing fluttering flags and pallets of drinking water\u2014a sign of the times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those in attendance comforted each other and found comfort in the group\u2014sharing stories of water damage, narrow-escape, and service to others. &nbsp;The conversations focused on hope: hoping the water would recede soon, hoping they would have the strength to continue to serve others, hoping their neighbors would return; but most of all, hope and faith is something greater than the storms and fear. &nbsp;Hope in an eternal future through faith in and the grace of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hope infused with a sense of joy filled the time together. &nbsp; &nbsp;No sign of empty promises or fantasy was present. &nbsp;Everyone understood that when they left their time together they were going to walk past reminders of the destruction before even reaching their vehicle. &nbsp; But, they would also walk past the row of Salvation Army flags fluttering in the wind. &nbsp;The words in the center of each flag are a reminder of the source of their faith and strength \u2013 \u201cBlood &amp; Fire.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many, \u201cnormal\u201d or even the \u201cnew normal\u201d is still a long way off, but there is Hope, and in that hope, the strength to move forward. &nbsp; The brass band started the meeting by playing \u201cOnward Christian Soldiers;\u201d both a reminder and a charge to all present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Salvation Army was serving our neighbors before the storms, The Salvation Army is serving survivors of Hurricane Florence today, and The Salvation Army will still be here tomorrow. &nbsp;Always looking to fill unmet needs in the community and partnering with other agencies to meet the needs of each person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"credits-overlay\" data-target=\".wp-image-12904\">Chris McGown<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Conway, SC \u2013 The community is working to find a sense of normalcy, even as some parts of the community are still cut off by flood water. \u00a0On Sunday, community members and visitors filed into The Salvation Army\u2019s chapel, passing fluttering flags and pallets of drinking water\u2014a sign of the times.
