In the meantime, The Salvation Army of Georgia’s response is also focusing on supporting communities with additional services as cleanup efforts get underway.

Onsite, Major Ken Chapman, Director of The Salvation Army’s North Georgia Mission based in Tococa, Georgia, will coordinate The Salvation Army’s emergency response.

Today, The Salvation Army’s Gainesville, GA Rapid Response Unit (RRU) is being deployed to Fannin County to provide snacks and hydration to those working in the affected area.

Recognizing that the coming days will bring significant cleanup and recovery needs, The Salvation Army has requested a tractor-trailer shipment of meal kits containing breakfast and lunch/dinner options. These kits will help provide convenient food for residents, emergency responders, and cleanup workers.

An additional tractor-trailer shipment of shelf-stable food boxes has also been ordered to support households facing food needs due to the flooding. Delivery dates and times for both shipments are being coordinated, with meal kits prioritized for initial distribution and a separate food box distribution tentatively planned for a later date.

Several pallets of cleanup kits are also being transported to Fannin County today. The Salvation Army will make these supplies available as needed, coordinating with other organizations and community partners already delivering assistance.

Additionally, The Salvation Army of Georgia is coordinating with Baby2Baby, which plans to deliver diapers and other essential baby supplies to The Salvation Army’s warehouse this week. These items will be distributed based on needs identified among families in the affected communities.

“The needs of a community can change very quickly following a disaster, and our response must be flexible enough to change with them,” said Lanita Lloyd, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army of Georgia. “As residents begin the difficult work of cleaning up and recovering, we’re working to ensure that food, cleanup supplies and other essential resources are available to help meet those needs. We’re grateful for our partners and their willingness to work together to serve our neighbors during this challenging time.”

The full extent of residential damage in the affected areas has not yet been confirmed. The Salvation Army continues to coordinate with county officials, the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA) and other response partners as assessments continue and additional needs are identified.

The Salvation Army is committed to being there when disaster strikes – providing practical assistance, encouragement and hope to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances. As recovery efforts continue across North Georgia, the organization will remain engaged and prepared to respond as needs emerge.

How You Can Help

The best way to support The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services efforts is by making a financial contribution, which helps meet immediate and long-term needs.
