{"id":2636,"date":"2024-02-27T11:53:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-27T11:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/redesign.salarmyeds.org\/index.php\/2024\/02\/27\/salvation-army-teams-provide-support-to-evacuees-and-first-responders-amid-western-nebraska-wildfires\/"},"modified":"2024-09-19T01:07:09","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T01:07:09","slug":"salvation-army-teams-provide-support-to-evacuees-and-first-responders-amid-western-nebraska-wildfires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/index.php\/2024\/02\/27\/salvation-army-teams-provide-support-to-evacuees-and-first-responders-amid-western-nebraska-wildfires\/","title":{"rendered":"Salvation Army Teams Provide Support to Evacuees and First Responders Amid Western Nebraska Wildfires"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"2636\" class=\"elementor elementor-2636\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-8031db9 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"8031db9\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-4b6a11a0\" data-id=\"4b6a11a0\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-71178979 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"71178979\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska\u2014<\/strong>Salvation Army Western Division personnel are providing relief and support to evacuees and first responders as a series of wildfires sweeps across remote parts of the area around North Platte.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p><p>The fires began late Monday morning just north of the west-central Nebraska town and quickly spread due to high winds and warm temperatures.&nbsp; Multiple fire departments were called in as residents in rural areas near North Platte\u2014among them, the town of Stapleton\u2014were evacuated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p><p>Salvation Army teams sprang into action in response to the fires.&nbsp; Locally, The Salvation Army North Platte Corps opened an emergency shelter Monday for fire crews and those affected by the wildfires.&nbsp; Meantime, a Western Divisional Headquarters group set out from Omaha Monday afternoon with food and supplies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p><p>Early Tuesday, North Platte Salvation Army representatives, Omaha-based Salvation Army staff who\u2019d driven to North Platte, and congregants from a local church all teamed up to provide grab-and-go breakfasts to first responders.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p><p>Later Tuesday, Salvation Army teams will work with church representatives to provide a lunch-and-dinner feeding operation for evacuees and firefighters at the local National Guard Armory.&nbsp; Additionally, The Salvation Army is preparing to provide snacks and hydration to the hundreds of firefighters who have been responding to the wildfires.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p><p>Community members who\u2019d like to assist are asked to drop off snack foods, sports drinks, and bottled water at one of two locations:&nbsp; The Salvation Army North Platte Corps at 1020 N. Adams Ave. or the Armory at 1700 N. Jeffers Street.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p><p>Monday evening, Nebraska\u2019s governor issued a disaster declaration for the two affected counties, Custer and Lincoln.&nbsp; As of early Tuesday morning, a total of 24 fire departments had been called in to battle the fires in this mostly rural area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p><p>Salvation Army teams will continue to provide disaster-relief support in North Platte and the surrounding area for as long as they are
