The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command (NCAC) extends its deepest condolences to those affected by the tragic mid-air collision of an Army Black Hawk helicopter and American Airlines Flight 5342. Among the passengers, nearly 14 individuals were connected to U.S. Figure Skating. With one their training facilities located locally in Fairfax County, VA, this tragedy significantly impacted the local skating community, and The Salvation Army NCAC is committed to standing with them during this difficult time.<\/p>\n\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6542 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Image4-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Image4-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Image4-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Image4-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Image4-1536x2048.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Image4-scaled.jpeg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n\n<p>In response, The Salvation Army NCAC\u2019s Emergency Disaster Services team deployed to SkateQuest in Reston, VA offering emotional and spiritual care, along with snacks, bananas, bottled water, and hot chocolate to skaters, coaches, families, and community members affected by this heartbreaking loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSkateQuest has been a valued partner of The Salvation Army, serving as an Angel Tree sponsor for several years,\u201d said Area Commander Major Todd Mason. \u201cJust this past Christmas they generously sponsored 80 local low-income children, ensuring these children had gifts under the tree on Christmas morning. Today, as they navigate this painful time, it is our privilege to offer hope and compassion to the entire skating community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Salvation Army NCAC also had a team at Gravelly Point along the Potomac River, providing food and support to the first responders assisting with the recovery efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their local Emergency Disaster Services teams remain mobilized and ready to serve wherever needed. The Salvation Army NCAC will continue to stand beside our community in the D.C. area, where they have been proudly serving for 140
