The storm left power outages across the entire region. As Hurricane Ida moved across the states of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, the storm&#8217;s&nbsp;remnants caused widespread flooding and tornadoes. The Salvation Army continues to serve the affected areas as power is restored&nbsp;and recovery projects are developed. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is a snapshot of services that The Salvation Army has&nbsp;been providing&nbsp;in the past week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SERVICES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Twenty-one (21) mobile feeding units continue to distribute meals provided by the Baptist Kitchen and Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) throughout the greater New Orleans area. An additional 20\u00a0units are supporting the southern Louisiana team in Gonzales.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Salvation Army partnered with Walmart in New Orleans for a two-day mass feeding event which brought relief to more than 2,000 people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incident Command centers have been established in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York, while mobile feeding units, each of which can serve 500-1,500 meals per day, are being prepared for deployment along with cleanup kits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Salvation Army has begun or will soon begin mass distribution\u00a0in Louisiana, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>STATISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Hot &amp; cold meals<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>275,572<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Drinks<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>156,664<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Snacks<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>72,200<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Emotional &amp; Spiritual Care (ESC) contacts<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>11,776<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NEWS HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/disaster.salvationarmyusa.org\/news\/2021\/09\/07\/salvation-army-opening-distribution-site-for-southern-bayou-communities\"><strong>Salvation Army Opening Distribution Site for Southern Bayou Communities<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Salvation Army Texas Incident Management Team has maintained a robust ongoing feeding operation in communities without power, with increasing focus on the southern Bayou communities in Louisiana. A distribution site providing food boxes, water, clean up kits, and other practical assistance, will open from Thursday-Saturday this week, in Bourg, serving southern areas of Terrebonne County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs our mobile feeding units continue to move into areas south of Houma, we\u2019re seeing many communities that have not received much aid,\u201d said Alvin Migues, The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services Director for Texas. \u201cThe Salvation Army has established a distribution point in Bourg at the request of the Terrebonne Parrish Sherriff\u2019s Department. We look forward to serving the needs of these hard-hit underserved communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/disaster.salvationarmyusa.org\/news\/2021\/09\/02\/the-salvation-army-expands-hurricane-ida-relief\"><strong>The Salvation Army Expands Hurricane Ida Relief<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to Midwest Food Bank and PepsiCo, we loaded up our vans this morning to distribute food boxes and snack kits to designated areas that are still in need of assistance after #HurricaneIda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.news5cleveland.com\/news\/local-news\/cleveland-metro\/the-salvation-army-deploys-disaster-relief-staff-after-hurricane-ida-impacts-several-northeast-states\"><strong>The Salvation Army deploys disaster relief staff after Hurricane Ida impacts several Northeast states<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Salvation Army has activated its team of trained disaster staff to help with relief efforts in multiple states which have been severely impacted by the remnants of Hurricane Ida. The team will be deployed to Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are doing everything in our power to respond efficiently and effectively to the impacts made by Hurricane Ida,\u201d said Robert Myers III, the Emergency Disaster Services Coordinator for The Salvation Army\u2019s USA Eastern Territory. \u201cWith the continued generosity of the public, The Salvation Army will remain on the ground serving those affected by the storm for however long our services are needed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/disaster.salvationarmyusa.org\/news\/2021\/09\/08\/a-passion-and-heart-to-serve-despite-personal-loss\"><strong>A Passion and Heart to Serve Despite Personal Loss<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Hurricane Ida made landfall on Sunday, August 29, the powerful storm resulted in damage and destruction throughout southern Louisiana and beyond. For one Salvation Army employee, her passion and heart to meet the needs of others means serving in her very own neighborhood and city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Angela Brown is from Gray, Louisiana, and is The Salvation Army Service Center Manager in Houma, LA. \u201cJust like many of my neighbors, my home was damaged by the storm,\u201d said Angela. \u201cMy ceiling collapsed, and I\u2019ve had water leaking in my home, and there\u2019ll be even more today since it\u2019s raining. Down my street was total devastation. We had several trees fall, and power lines are down.
