{"id":7768,"date":"2021-03-30T17:24:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-30T17:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/?p=7768"},"modified":"2025-06-27T17:48:16","modified_gmt":"2025-06-27T17:48:16","slug":"the-salvation-army-serves-after-the-tornadoes-in-roebuck-and-columbiana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salarmyeds.org\/index.php\/2021\/03\/30\/the-salvation-army-serves-after-the-tornadoes-in-roebuck-and-columbiana\/","title":{"rendered":"The Salvation Army Serves After the Tornadoes in Roebuck and Columbiana"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Birmingham, AL &#8212; <\/strong>The\u00a0tornado outbreak that blew through Birmingham and surrounding areas on Thursday, March 25, not only affected large residential areas in Roebuck\u00a0but also in rural locations like Columbiana.\u00a0 As always, The Salvation Army was there, serving food and drink to those who needed them. \u201cWe\u2019re here to do God\u2019s work,\u201d said Joe, a Salvation Army canteen worker from Tuscaloosa.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of those affected by the tornado was Rosa Alas, who lived in a small mobile home park in Columbiana.&nbsp; &nbsp;\u201cMy house moved,\u201d she said, pointing to the bottom of her home.&nbsp; \u201cIt actually moved.&nbsp; And the roof came off too,\u201d she added.&nbsp;&nbsp; The tornado not only moved her mobile home off its frame a few inches, but also damaged most of the other homes in the small mobile home park.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosa says that she does consider herself fortunate because she and her family knew that the tornado was coming and drove to Montevallo to be safe with friends.&nbsp; \u201cThis was my first home,\u201d Rosa said, \u201cand it means so much to me.&nbsp; When I called my friend who lives next door,\u201d she continued, \u201cshe said that my home was hit by the tornado.&nbsp; I thought no, no it can\u2019t be!&nbsp; I just had refurbished my home and now a tornado\u2014I was really upset.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Rosa returned to her home, she said she became tearful.&nbsp; \u201cI just started to cry,\u201d she said. &nbsp;\u201cI didn\u2019t know what to do.\u201d The positive news is her home wasn\u2019t damaged as much as some, and she is still able to live at her home.&nbsp;&nbsp; She has a tarp covering her roof for now. Her father Antonio also lives near her and saw that his roof was gone too.&nbsp; \u201cI was so sad,\u201d said Antonio, \u201cbecause I have been living here for 10 years.\u201d Antonio said that he also feels lucky because he has great friends who live near him as well.&nbsp; \u201cThey have been helping to repair many of the homes,\u201d remarked Antonio, who has been working on a roof of another home, even before his own home.&nbsp; \u201cWe still are hurting,\u201d said Rosa, \u201cbut we appreciate how many people care.&nbsp; Hopefully, we can return to normal soon.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To date, The Salvation Army has provided the following to those affected by the&nbsp;tornadoes in Alabama:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meals
