HELENA, MT – The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team has been working in Helena, MT, and the nearby areas impacted by the Montana floods. Flooding throughout the area is caused by warm weather melting the past season’s snowpack, and is expected to continue for the near future.
Captain Rob Lawler is leading the response effort on behalf of The Salvation Army. “At this point, the biggest need is clean water for cooking and washing,” said Captain Lawler. Residents can pick up the water at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds or at The Salvation Army, 1905 Henderson Street. As of Thursday morning, The Salvation Army has distributed four pallets of bottled water to local families, approximately 7,600 bottles. Captain Lawler noted that The Salvation Army has its own resources for bottled water and does not need donations of bottled water.
How to Help
The most critical need right now is for monetary donations. The best way to help during any disaster, large or small, is often to make a financial contribution. Cash donations allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of disaster survivors without incurring many of the costs associated with sorting, packing, transporting and distributing donated goods. Salvation Army disaster services are funded entirely by donors, and The Salvation Army uses 100% of all disaster donations in support of disaster relief operations.
Funds raised will support continued relief and restoration efforts in the area. When flooding subsides, The Salvation Army will help with clean-up in the area. There are three ways to contribute to The Salvation Army relief and restoration efforts for the floods:
