Tyson Foods Partners with The Salvation Army to Support Hurricane Laura Relief Efforts

Atlanta, Georgia (September 1, 2020) - Thanks to the generosity of Tyson Foods, thousands of residents in southern Louisiana and Texas will have a cooked meal as they continue their cleanup and recovery from the devastation left by Hurricane Laura. Tyson Foods has kindly made truckloads of chicken and ice available to The Salvation Army in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Beaumont, Texas to support our on-the-ground feeding efforts as we serve these communities impacted by the storm.

The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services has deployed mobile feeding units into the affected communities, which will deliver prepared Tyson chicken to neighbors that are dealing with enormous amounts of devastation and destruction. This food will offer hope and healing to survivors as they begin the undreamed-of task of rebuilding their lives.

Over the next week, The Salvation Army anticipates serving at least 50,000 meals in the impacted communities, which would not be possible without the generous corporate and public donations. The Salvation Army is grateful for the support, which helps us to do the most good for those in need.

“The impact of Hurricane is still being measured and we’re deploying resources where we can make the most impact,” said Debra Vernon, senior director, corporate social responsibility, Tyson Foods. “Our response wouldn’t be possible without the support of our team members, disaster relief partners like Salvation Army and customers, who are all volunteering time and resources to make sure our response is as successful as possible.”

Tyson Foods and The Salvation Army work together regularly in support of communities all over our country. This year alone, Tyson Foods has donated thousands of pounds of protein toward our previous disaster responses, as well as our national Covid-19 response efforts.

The best way to support the disaster work of The Salvation Army is by making a financial donation at www.helpsalvationarmy.org or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
