The Salvation Army Continues Service in Western Kentucky

Mayfield, KY (December 15, 2021)--Trained personnel from across the Southern Territory of The Salvation Army are on the ground in Western Kentucky, working closely with state and local authorities to meet human needs in the name of Jesus Christ after an outbreak of tornados ravaged several areas last week. Power is still out in many parts of the area and according to local reports it may not be restored for several weeks.

Today Salvation Army teams of personnel are providing meals to residents, first responders, and volunteers in Mayfield, Kentucky, a town that was directly in the path of Friday night’s storms. Additional reports of areas of need are coming in from the surrounding counties and mobile feeding units are roving in those areas to serve people who are looking for a hot meal and a listening ear.

“Providing hope to people in the most need is what we have done in these communities for years,” said Bo Sells, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army in Kentucky and Tennessee. “We are here now and we will remain as the residents work to restore their lives.”

Working closely with local, county, state, and federal officials, The Salvation Army personnel ensure resources and services are focused where needed most. Pulling from a network of strategically placed equipment and a host of trained responders, The Salvation Army can respond effectively and efficiently in times of disaster.
