(Middlesboro, KY) – The Salvation Army of Kentucky and Tennessee is closely monitoring the ongoing flash flood emergency occurring in Eastern Kentucky. On Thursday, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency over flash flooding in Breathitt, Leslie, Letcher, Knott, Magoffin, Perry, Pike, and Wolfe counties.

The Salvation Army is prepared to deploy emergency disaster relief teams if needed. These teams are equipped with mobile canteens, flood kits, and bottled water. The Salvation Army has responded to numerous natural disasters, transportation accidents, civil unrest situations and terrorist attacks.

“We stand ready to provide beverages, meals, flood kits, and emotional and spiritual care to first responders and survivors of this flood emergency,” said Bo Sells, Divisional Emergency Disaster Service Director. “The Salvation Army strives to bring hope and healing to people who find themselves in the midst of extremely difficult situations.”
