Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas and Louisiana on August 26, 2017, bringing catastrophic flooding to communities across the region, especially Greater Houston. Over four days, the slow-moving system dropped more than 40 inches of rain in many areas, overwhelming neighborhoods, infrastructure, and local response systems.
The Salvation Army mounted its largest disaster response operation since Hurricane Katrina. At the height of the response, 106 mobile feeding units were deployed, and more than 6,000 people answered the call to serve. Multiple operational bases were established across Texas, including Corpus Christi, Victoria, the Golden Triangle near Beaumont, and Houston. From these locations, Salvation Army personnel served nearly 1 million hot meals, distributed thousands of essential supplies, and provided emotional and spiritual care to more than 56,000 individuals.
