Here in Georgetown the water has begun to rise and the rivers are cresting. It’s early morning and the officers, staff, and volunteers serving here are preparing to leave the Incident Command Post for their respective tasks. Before they go, they gather for a morning devotion and word of prayer. This morning, Captain Michael Missey from The Salvation Army Mountain Mission in Hot Springs, NC, leads the gathering.

“We don’t always have the choice of what we do. We don’t always get to choose where we go”, he says and the gathered officers and National Guardsmen look at each other and chuckle. Capt. Missey continues with prayer, “Lord, may you be with us today, may you use us for your purpose, may we serve to your glory.”

Because this is where it all begins, each day, each task, each story. And as the flood approaches, the team gets to work in His name.

Amen.
